Thermic effect of food (TEF)
The energy your body burns just digesting a meal — highest for protein.
The thermic effect of food is the energy your body spends digesting and processing what you eat. It's highest for protein (roughly 20–30% of its calories), far lower for carbs and fat — one reason a protein-forward diet modestly supports metabolism and satiety.
